The Feast

2023

Hundreds of people around a round table on a roundabout with entertainment and food.

Following on from the success of The Dinner Party in 2021, I returned to Lache and with the help of many local people, created a giant street party, inspired by the many volunteers and community sprit of the place as well as the carnivals and festivals held on the estate in years gone by.

Over a few months we held gardening sessions, cooking classes and craft clubs. Local primary schools, shops, dancers, footballers and coffee mornings gave their time and energy to make and rehearse for the event. On the day itself roads were closed and sunshine, chefs and star-studded turns took to the street.

With Lache Balmoral Dance Troupe, Lache Juniors Football Club, Studio 13 Dance, St Clare’s Catholic Primary School, Lache Primary School, Rita Owen and Jan Dean, Steve’s Ice Cream, Julie’s Tombola, Chester Big Band, Ella’s Craft Table, Steph’s Plant Stall and BeeZoo Face-painting.

Huge shout out to Diana Hamilton who stood with me on a grey January day in 2021 and when I said that I’d love to see a massive party on this roundabout; said yes, let’s do it. Photos by Joe Lee. Video by Canteen Productions. Funded by Cheshire West and Chester Council. Part of Chester Contemporary.
